About National Fire Risk Assessment
Updated October 2026
In short: National Fire Risk Assessment is an independent guide and introduction service. We publish plain-English guides to fire risk assessments in England and Wales, and when you ask for a quote, we pass your enquiry to a qualified assessor who covers your area. We don’t carry out assessments ourselves, and we don’t sell fire doors, alarms or remedial works.
Who we are
This site is run by Andre Douglas, trading as National Fire Risk Assessment. Andre has worked in search and digital marketing for 14 years, and set up this site because finding clear, trustworthy information about fire risk assessments was harder than it should be. Most of what’s out there is written by firms trying to sell you something.
We are not fire risk assessors, and we don’t pretend to be. The assessments themselves are carried out by independent assessors, who are responsible for their own work and their own reports.
You can reach us at info@nationalfireriskassessment.co.uk.
What happens when you ask for a quote
- You tell us about your property using the quote form: what it is, where it is, and when you need the assessment.
- We pass your enquiry to an assessor who covers your area and works with your type of property.
- The assessor contacts you with a quote. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation to accept it.
- If you go ahead, your contract is with the assessor, not with us. They carry out the assessment and write your report.
We check an assessor’s qualifications and insurance before passing them any enquiries. If you’re ever unhappy with an assessor we introduced, tell us. We’d rather know.
Who pays us, and why it matters
Using this site is free. We’re paid by the assessors we introduce enquiries to, not by you. We think you should know that, because it’s the kind of thing that can shape advice. Here’s how we keep it from shaping ours:
- Our guides tell you what the law and the official guidance say, with the source linked, whether or not it leads to a booking.
- We tell you when you can do the assessment yourself, for example for a small, simple B&B or holiday let.
- We tell you what to watch out for in any assessor, including the ones we work with: rushed visits, template reports, and quotes that lead straight to an upsell.
- Our prices come from published price lists, not from our partners.
How our guides are written
Every guide is built from primary sources: legislation, the official government fire safety guides, fire and rescue service press releases, court reports and Home Office statistics. Every figure, prosecution and quote is checked against its source and linked so you can check it too. Our How we research page explains the method in full, including how we use AI tools.
Our guides are general information, not legal advice. For your own building, the fire risk assessment is what tells you what you need to do.
